First customer fulfilment centre in greater San Francisco Bay Area
According to local press reports, building 1 at Napa Logistics Park is being modified to accommodate its first tenant, IKEA. The retailer will use the logistics facility as an eCommerce distribution centre, its first customer service fulfilment centre in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
The 60,015 m2 facility, at Napa Logistics Park in American Canyon, is located off Devlin Road. It has been vacant since it was completed a year ago. It is anticpated that the logistics centre will employ about 200 people.
The facility will deliver customer orders in Central and Northern California as well as the Pacific Northwest. The new site will also serve as a customer fulfilment centre for hands-free shopping services for the San Francisco market. Hands-free shopping affords customers in an IKEA store the option to book a home delivery right from the showroom floor while they are making their purchasing decision. This eliminates the need to stand in an additional line to book delivery services after check out.
IKEA has submitted plans for modifying both the interior and parking lot of the facility. In recent weeks it has announced plans to begin selling furniture through third-party websites next year.
