Facility will be Lidl's 12th UK regional distribution centre
Discount retailer Lidl has announced plans to open a new logistics centre in Devon, UK to support its growth in the south-west of England.
The retailer has acquired a site in Clyst Honiton near Exeter airport from Sainsbury’s. Plans have been lodged with local authorities for a 50,000 m2 distribution centre with construction work expected to start this summer.
The facility is then anticipated to be operational by September 2017 and will features a low energy design, including maximising solar gain to reduce light energy consumption, high performance building fabric, low energy lighting design and a high efficiency heating plan running a Refrigeration Waste Heat Recovery System.
Lidl currently has nine distribution centres in the UK serving 630 stores in England, Scotland and Wales. It has also announced plans to open facilities in Southampton and Wednesbury.
