MIRRAT set to operate Melbourne Auto Terminal 04 July 2014

Building a sustainable, world class automotive and RoRo terminal

MIRRAT (Melbourne International RoRo and Auto Terminal Pty Ltd) has been selected as the successful bidder for the development of the Webb Dock West automotive terminal by the Port of Melbourne Corporation. Construction will take place in two phases, starting later this year. Phase one will be the construction of a new 185,000 m2 facility north of the current Webb Dock West car terminal, due to be completed early 2016. Phase two will be the incorporation of the current automotive terminal at the south end of Webb Dock West from January 1st, 2018.

When all completed, the facility will have capacity to handle up to a million units per annum and a total berth length of 920 metres. The facility will also include a 8,000 m2 fully enclosed and weather proof cargo storage area, a maintenance area and truck parking facilities. A vehicle appointment system will ensure good traffic flow in and out of the facility, as well as minimise the impact on surrounding road infrastructure.

MIRRAT’s key objective is to build and operate a sustainable world class automotive and Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) terminal. The innovative design has been developed in partnership with Hyder Consulting and PLUS Architecture. Leighton Contractors has been appointed to construct the facility. High environmental standards, combined with focus on users' and stakeholders' requirements for efficiency, competitiveness and flexibility, are a principal part of MIRRATs commitment.

MIRRAT, being part of the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL) group of companies, will use this opportunity to leverage WWL’s global terminal experience, particularly in terms of operational efficiency and industrialisation.
