Moving towards closer integration between mail and parcel delivery
New Zealand Post is moving its Hamilton postal and courier operations to a purpose-built integrated delivery and distribution hub. The Company has signed an agreement with Civil Place Limited to lease a brand new 8,000 m2 building at Te Rapa Gateway, which is expected to be operational in the first half of 2016.
The hub is specially designed so that New Zealand Post can get parcels to customers faster, and to support and enhance mail and rural delivery in Hamilton and the Waikato areas. The new building will support innovations that are currently being trialled including the three and four-wheeled eco vehicles that carry letters and parcels.
The hub will be a base for around 60 posties, 13 rural delivery contractors and 35 couriers, and a significant hub for the Company’s distribution network in the wider Waikato region.
Negotiations are continuing with a potential buyer for the Waikato Mail Service Centre. The existing ECL site is leased until July 2016.
