Part of strategy to develop and grow its logistics business unit
Pošta Slovenije, the national postal operator in Slovenia, has acquired the logistics operations of Mladinska knjiga Založba (MKZ), the country’s leading publisher, in a deal valued at a little less than €13.0 million. It will formally take over operations on 01 October.
The deal is part of Pošta Slovenije’s strategy to develop and grow its logistics business unit, as traditional postal revenues decline, aiming to become a leading provider of logistics and supply chain services in Slovenia and the wider region.
The postal operator will use the operations to expand its own parcel and supply chain activities which have been limited by a lack of warehouse space.
MKZ’s profitable logistics division not only provides services to its parent company, but also serves third party customers. The Company has a site, next to its main warehouse in Ljubljana, that offers opportunities for expansion.
Pošta Slovenije has established a new company, PS Logistics, to take on all 57 employees from the logistics operations of MKZ. The respective activities complement each other. Pošta Slovenije can successfully meet customer’s needs for deliveries of small consignments, whilst the acquired operations provide expertise in the storage of larger items such as spare parts for the automotive industry, with experience across a range of bulk commodities.
