Increase in volumes will improve competitiveness
PostNord has agreed to acquire Uudenmaan Pikakuljetus (UPK) from DSV Road. The acquisition significantly enhances PostNord's position in Finland regarding domestic parcel deliveries, scheduled deliveries, healthcare and eCommerce logistics, as well as temperature-controlled transport services.
The acquisition is a demonstration of the PostNord strategy to strengthen its position in Finland and it will increase PostNord's Finnish operations by approximately one-third. The increase in volume will improve competitiveness and allow the Company to offer customers higher quality and more comprehensive logistic services.
UPK's and PostNord's operations, terminals and transport networks complement one another. This will allow for effective increase of transport volumes, thus also improving delivery reliability.
The acquisition requires the approval of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority. PostNord expects the acquisition to be fully concluded by the beginning of September.
Uudenmaan Pikakuljetus specialises in express parcel deliveries as well as scheduled and temperature-controlled transport services. Its other area of specialised expertise is healthcare logistics. In 2014, UPK had a turnover of approximately €24.0 million and a staff of some 60 employees. The Company maintains operations all over Finland and is renowned for its high quality.
In Finland, PostNord enjoys a strong position in parcel delivery services and, in particular, scheduled InNight deliveries. PostNord offers international mail services, groupage shipments, parcel and pallet services, and warehousing solutions. PostNord also enjoys a strong presence in eCommerce logistics.
