Prologis has announced that the Planning Inspectorate has granted a Development Consent Order (DCO) for 743,000 m2 of rail-linked distribution space at the third phase of Prologis RFI DIRFT in the Midlands.
The new development, which is known as DIRFT III, represents a major investment in the UK logistics sector by Prologis. Site preparation work will start before the end of the year and Prologis anticipates that the first buildings will be ready for occupation by the end of 2016.
The DIRFT III site forms part of the regeneration and redevelopment of the Rugby Radio Station site.
Located next to the M1 motorway and the West Coast Mainline, DIRFT III is the first Strategic Rail Freight Interchange to secure a DCO in line with the Planning Act 2008 and as the largest rail-linked logistics development in the UK, it will provide facilities that will allow an increasing number of companies to integrate rail freight into their distribution operations.
Together with the Sustainable Urban Extension to Rugby, which will include up to 6,200 new homes with supporting infrastructure and facilities, DIRFT III will regenerate the former BT Rugby Radio Station site over a 20 year period.
