Rhenus acquires ALS freight forwarding company 03 March 2016

Specialises in logistics for the steel and chemical industries

Rhenus is expanding its capacity in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia after completing the purchase of Allgemeine Land- und Seespedition (ALS). The two ALS business sites in Duisburg and Bottrop, which provide operating space measuring 107,000 m2 in all, focus on handling and storing goods for customers in the steel and chemical industries.

Rhenus believe that there is enormous development potential for solutions in the chemical industry at the site in Bottrop, which has excellent transport links at the heart of the Ruhr region.

Arnd Zappe, a former shareholder, will continue to be Managing Director at ALS.

By integrating the two ALS business sites, the Rhenus Group is expanding its range of services in North Rhine-Westphalia, a further 31 warehouses, seven cranes and an open-air storage area for steel products measuring 11,000 m2 are just some of the additions. Hazardous goods warehouses, temperature-controlled storage areas and an open bonded warehouse are also available at the ALS business premises, which have been taken over.
