DHL cooperates on investigations into the freight forwarding industry

10 February 2010

Alleged coordinated conduct related to different surcharges

The European Commission has issued a Statement of Objections to several freight forwarding companies. Deutsche Post DHL's Global Forwarding division can confirm that it was among the companies having received a copy of the Statement of Objections. DHL Global Forwarding can also confirm that it has been cooperating with the European Commission in connection with this investigation. The Statement of Objections concerns alleged coordinated conduct related to different surcharges, none of which is, or relates to, fuel.

DHL Global Forwarding cooperation began after the Company became aware, during the course of an internal investigation that activities potentially raising concerns under the competition laws may have occurred. Deutsche Post and relevant subsidiaries, as part of its cooperation, have been granted immunity from prosecution and fines by the European Commission conditional upon DHL Global Forwarding continued cooperation.

DHL Global Forwarding believes that the economic effects of the reported activities were minimal. DP DHL's Mail, Express and Supply Chain divisions are not subject of the investigation. Nevertheless, in addition to its continued cooperation and compliance with the amnesty programme, DP DHL has, and will continue, to strengthen its antitrust training and internal compliance procedures across all Business Units.
