Kering enhances its global logistics capabilities with new hub 09 April 2021

Facility will be operated by long-standing logistics partner, XPO

Kering has completed the first phase of its new global logistics hub in Trecate (Novara, Piemonte), Northern Italy. The first part of the building has been operating since March 2020, and the second part (over 100,000 m2) is scheduled to be operative by the end of Q2, 2021.

Built in record time, the Group’s new global logistics hub covers more than 162,000 m2 (equivalent to 20 rugby fields) and combines state-of-the-art technology and automation, scalability, innovative sustainability and features for the well-being of employees.

The hub will meet the demand from regional warehouses, retail stores, wholesalers and eCommerce worldwide, and will significantly increase the Group’s capabilities in terms of shipping (up to 80.0 million pieces per year) and storage (up to 20.0 million pieces). It will also allow to reduce lead times by 50.0% by increasing the speed of deliveries and to enhance collaboration with the Group’s brands.

More than 250 people are currently working in the facillity, with the total number of staff planned to reach approximately 900 by the end of 2022. The site is operated by XPO Logistics, Kering’s longstanding logistics partner, which employs the on-site workforce dedicated to warehouse operations.

Kering is transforming its worldwide logistics network in Europe, America and Asia to become fully omnichannel, to markedly increase the speed of deliveries to the benefits of its Houses and their clients. This brand new facility is another testament to Kering’s commitment to Italy: the Group is continuing to invest in the country, not only in terms of its artisanal and managerial capabilities, but also its logistics competences and know-how.

The Trecate plant will have one of Europe’s largest rooftop solar systems, with its photovoltaic panels providing a total of 12.7 MWp on completion of the building, saving an estimated 7,500 tons CO2 a year. The site will also be the first industrial complex in Italy to produce more energy than it consumes. The excess electricity will be fed into Italy’s power distribution grid, for use at Kering stores and corporate offices in the country.

Both the shell & core warehouses and the offices will be LEED-certified and are expected to achieve a Platinum rating (thereby becoming the first LEED Platinum certified warehouse in Europe). Offices are also seeking WELL certification to guarantee the best work environment for all employees, with the target of achieving a Gold rating.

A global Luxury group, Kering manages the development of a series of renowned Houses in Fashion, Leather Goods, Jewelry and Watches: Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Brioni, Boucheron, Pomellato, DoDo, Qeelin, Ulysse Nardin, Girard-Perregaux, as well as Kering Eyewear. In 2020, Kering had over 38,000 employees and revenue of €13.1 billion.
