In this inaugural edition of the Portugal Logistics and Supply Chain Confidence Index, the research shows that as in many of the other European countries, 2023 remains an extremely demanding year due to current political and economic challenges.
The resulting Confidence Index for this 2023 edition stands below 50.0 at 48.6, with Logistics operators feeling more optimistic than Retailers and Manufacturers.
67% of respondents considered business conditions to be more difficult than a year ago. This finding was shared equally between Logistics Operators and Retailers and Manufacturers.
The research also considers the outlook for business conditions over the next twelve months which whilst still seemingly challenging, do show some signs of optimism.
Few companies across both Logistics Operators and Manufacturers and Retailers, expect to reduce headcount in the coming year with nearly three quarters still expecting to make significant capital expenditure over the next twelve months.
Decision makers representing logistics companies, manufacturers and retailers have shared their opinions and insights to facilitate this industry research study. Respondents included CEOs, managing directors and senior management. Interviewees were asked about current business conditions in Portugal and forecasts for the future.
