This year’s index score of 47.3 – down from 50.4 in 2022 – is the second lowest ever and only just above the result for the year of the first Covid lockdowns in 2020.
This suggests a dose of realism among logistic leaders after the economic turmoil of the last year and with the normalisation of supply chain capacity. Despite this, operators are still reporting opportunities for growth, such as greater collaboration with clients and other providers in the sector, and those with asset-light business models are more optimistic.
According to our research, three quarters of operators (75%) feel business conditions are more difficult now than a year ago, but there are signs logistics leaders are a little more upbeat about the year ahead.
